Klitschko Has A Dig At Fury’s Loss To Usyk – ‘Thank you, The Tricks Fury Tried Failed’

Wladimir Klitschko had a dig at Tyson Fury following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk became the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since Lennox Lewis, beating Fury via a split decision. Fury was almost stopped in round nine, only to be saved by the bell. The win was revenge for Klitschko’s defeat to Fury in 2015. Fury outboxed Klitschko in Germany to become the Unified Heavyweight Champion. Fury attempted to use tactics similar to those he used on Klitschko when he faced Usyk.

The Gypsy King boxed on the back foot, showboating to the crowd as he attempted to steal the rounds. In the build-up, Klitschko felt Usyk’s skills would prove too much since he was the better technical boxer.  Klitschko also joked that a Usyk win would prevent him from coming out of retirement to claim the belts.

Now that Usyk has won, there is no guarantee that the rematch will occur. Once Fury beat Klitschko, the Ukrainian never got to run things back. Usyk could decide to do something similar since he has nothing else to prove. Following the win, Klitschko had a dig at Fury, saying that his antics failed to work against Usyk.

Klitschko Reacts

“Thank you Oleksandr…Oleksandr showed once again that with technique, you can make much more and get much further in boxing than just with power. He has the power of the man, but his power is his heart, his belief, and that he’s Ukrainian. I’m really proud tonight of the winner of Oleksandr Usyk and really proud to be Ukrainian.

“He didn’t let him distract with all the tricks that Tyson Fury tried [as they failed] to do. He was consistent, and he stayed on his line and he was just waiting for this opportunity to make full contact that we saw in the ninth round, and he did it,” Klitschko said

Another member of Usyk’s team has had the last laugh. John Fury headbutted Stanislav Stepchuk during the start of fight week. Fury simply lashed out at Usyk’s team for cheering on their fighter as both camps faced each other. Fury was criticized for the unprovoked attack, especially since he picked on a smaller man from team Usyk. Stepchuk, however, saw Usyk beat Fury, getting the final say. While he did not take any action against John Fury, he had plenty to say once the fight ended. He was delighted to see his countryman come out victorious.

“I very happy..I don’t know why the referee [counted]…It doesn’t matter [as Usyk won] You need to speak with Tyson as he likes to…blah blah blah. Usyk won, it’s all amazing.  Of course, of course, I nervous [about the decision]. This is the heavyweight division. We will go to the hotel, watch this fight one more time and go to sleep. Thank you English people for supporting me…Now. we finished the fight. We talk about this [John Fury headbutt]. What is this? This is not professional work,” Stepchuk stated
